What is PIQ?
PIQ is a Document Management System.

What is a Document Management System (DMS)?

A DMS allows you to store any kind of binary data just like a usual file system.

But there are some features that extend the normal capabilities of a file system:
  • Document Metadata: Meta-data can be attached to a document (such as owner, status, create date, etc.);
  • Versioning Control: New versions of a document can be uploaded and old versions of documents are saved and can be retrieved as needed;
  • Security Mechanisms: Not every user should have access to every document - PIQ offers restriction mechanisms by users and/or groups;
  • Easy Access: Users can find files through tables of contents, indexes, and full-text searches and sort the results by certain criteria.
In detail PIQ offers you these features:
  • Upload files through web interface;
  • Create folders to group your documents;
  • Edit document and folder properties online;
  • Detailed information on uploaded documents;
  • Lock and unlock documents;
  • Update documents - old versions are saved;
  • Individual Icons for different Mime-Types;
  • Set expiration dates for documents;
  • Users are notified about new/updated or expired documents via email;
  • Download documents or view them online within your browser;
  • Control access via detailed ACLs (access control lists);
  • User and Group Management;
  • Powerful search engine capabilities;
  • Multi language support;
  • Template System;
  • User can choose language, color and style at login;
  • Intuitive User-Interface;
  • Should work with every browser;
  • Auto-conversion of MS Word-Documents to HTML to view documents online;
Folder Information:
Shows subfolders and documents located in the current folder. Depending on the access-mode you can add subfolders or documents, remove the folder, edit the notification list or even the folders ACL.

Document Information:
Provides all information on the current document: owner, comment, keywords, creation date, last update, file type, file size, expiration date and a list of all versions.

You can also lock (unlock) the document, remove it, edit the notification list or the ACL.

Notification list:
Add or remove users or groups that are notified when a document is created or updated. When a document expires an email is also sent to everyone who has at least write access to it and is in the notification list.

My Account:
Edit your personal data (Name, Comment, Email address), change your password or upload a new image of yourself. Administrators can also add or delete new users or groups.

PIQ combines all these features with a nice looking web interface which makes it possible to access your documents not only via intranet in your office but worldwide via the internet.
